This vase and its accompanying pieces is my favorite pottery collection. Here is my story.
I was moving to my new place.
I moved this piece while packing up.
It fell on my head.
It broke.
I got a big hickey.
I was upset.
End of story…..So I thought……………..
Don’t you hate it when you break a treasured item?
My first thought was to throw it away. I came to my senses and decided to fix it. How difficulty could it be? (this statment gets us fella’s in trouble every time)
This was tough. The final result wasn’t as perfect as I’d liked it to be. It’s OK since I learned so much – what to do and what not to do.
The type of glue used is important. I read a few internet entries, which said adhesives like crazy glue would work. Unfortunately, these types of glue not only took some time to bind the pieces. Furthermore, they left an ugly film on the vase’s outer shell. Crazy Glue made of ’Cyanoacrylate’, a tenacious adhesive, particularly when used to bond non-porous materials or those that contain minute traces of water. Since the vase is semi-porous, the glue doesn’t bind well.
Lastly, it is very important that you glue each piece back into place as perfectly at possible. Once a piece dries, if it’s not in the correct place, the next piece will not fit perfectly and so on. IT’S A VICIOUS CYCLE!
I’ll keep trying to get it right. Please let me know if you have suggestions on how to improve the process.
