ThriftStoreRemix’s mission is to spotlight the work of organizations who live the remix, reuse and re-purpose mantra. Today, I spotlight TeeCycle.org where T-Shirts get a 2econd life. I met TeeCycle’s founder, Tim Cigelske, through my ThriftStoreRemix Facebook Like Page. I love the idea of reusing T-shirts. Like most, I have a rather large collection. I hope that Tim can get me a “Where’s the Beef?” shirt. Hint! Hint!
Tim started TeeCycle in April 2008. He was inspired to do so because re-using what we have is just the smartest use of our resources. The average person owns about 27 t-shirts, and we can save a lot of cotton, water, energy and waste by re-using pre-worn shirts with character.
What keeps him going is constantly finding new (old) t-shirts, like this or this. It’s a constant scavenger hunt, and Tim loves it! Tim says, “Why buy new when you can find shirts like these?”
T-Shirt purchases support the River Revitalization Foundation. $1 of each sale is donated to restore urban river trails and waterways in the Milwaukee area. TeeCycle’s motto has always been “Change your shirt. Change the world.”
